Description

Pitstone windmill is believed to be the oldest windmill in the UK dating back to 1624. The windmill was restored in the 1960s after being heavily damaged during the great storms of 1902. I headed out to try and capture a silhouette of the sails against the evening sun set. Unfortunately the windmill has been set with its sails 90 degrees to the setting sun and therefore the shot I envisaged wasn't possible.

I tried making the most of the situation and used levels combined with dodge and burn in Photoshop to enhance contrast in what was originally a rather lacklustre sky.

Nikon D70 / 6.1mp / RAW format.

Pretty awesome perspective! It pretty much personifies taking something ordinary and making it look extra-ordinary! [+9]

Interesting place you have found. Especially light that is reflecting on the mill makes very unique atmosphere. Duotone also suits here.

I would also like to see this windmill placed in the composition where whole landscape is visible. I think it may work as a great accent. Picture with windmill has the highest score on the www.PhotoSIG.com, I must recommend it as an inspiration ;)
